How To Minimize Large Pores?

One of the major issues that both men and women deal with is large pores. People who struggle with these large pore problems are always considering the causes of their enlarged pores and the treatments they might use to reduce them.

Small holes in the skin called pores allow perspiration and grease to escape. They are also linked to the hair follicles in your head. These tiny pores are necessary for the skin to regulate its temperature and perspiration. All healthy pores are lined with some keratin and sebum, which is essential for defending your skin from pathogens and harmful microorganisms. Despite all these advantages, there are certain people who have bigger pores for a variety of reasons.

Reasons why your pores can become larger:
  • Acne

According to Dr. Joyce Teng, if you have acne, chances are you also have large pores. A large pore is an indication of increased size of oil glands and oil production, and people with oily skin tend to have acne that sometimes can lead into larger pores.

  • Genetics

It runs to your family. If your family have naturally oily skin, most probably you will also have those and with oily skin, pores will generally be larger, too. But that does not mean you can’t improve the overall appearance of your pores, but it does mean that there are certain limitations to what you’re going to be able to do.

  • Sun damage

Sun damage can thicken the skin, which leads to bigger pores. Prolonged sun exposure can also remove collagen, elastin and water from your skin, which causes the tissue beneath your skin to shrink and pull at the edges of your pores, making them sag and look bigger.

  • Age

As you age, your skin loses it elasticity, which causes your skin to stretch and sag, making pores appear larger. Your skin also thickens as you age, which causes miniscule skin cells to gather around your pores, making pores look bigger.

  • Clogged pores

If you have oily skin, dead skin cells inside the pore can also combine with the oil buildup, and it will form the plug that becomes a comedone. A comedone can be closed and appear as a flesh-colored bump or whitehead, or it can be open, in which case the sebum and dead skin combo usually oxidizes and results in a blackhead. This blackheads are mostly result to larger pores.

How to minimize the appearance of large pores?
  • Cleanse regularly

Throughout the day, especially when you are outside, bacteria, pollutants, dirt and old dead skin cells pile up on your face, which could lead to clogged pores and in the end can cause larger pores. Washing your face twice a day generally removes these unwanted impurities that will eventually give your skin a fresher and healthier look. With this type of skin issue, the best cleansers should be gentle and oil-free.

  • Use clay masks

Clay masks are a great way to absorb oil and restore a natural looking glow of your face. By using clay mask, it draws out water and oil from your pores that eventually gives your skin a tightened sensation and refined texture. This results in smaller looking pores. Clay masks are usually a combination of different clays such as bentonite or kaolin ir even sulfur which aids to help fight acne.

  • Exfoliate your skin regularly.

Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cells from the upper layer of your skin. If you are regularly removing the dead skin cells that clog your pores, your pores will look smaller. Exfoliation can be done twice a week especially if you are exposed to dirt and pollutants that can easily clog your pores. Please keep in mind to avoid over exfoliate because it can strip the skin’s protective barrier that may result in dehydrated and inflamed skin.

  • Use moisturizer daily

Moisturizing your skin everyday can reduce the chance of developing dry or oily skin. Both skin problems can cause acne that leads to larger pores. Moisturizer should be oil free and noncomedogenic. Products that contain retinol and vitamin C will help the skin increase collagen and elastin. This will keep skin looking toned and firm. Moisturize your skin twice a day, once in the morning and once at night for good results.

  • Always wear sunscreen or sunblock.

Sun exposure will result in pores that will begin to stretch and sag around the edges, which makes them look bigger. Always wear sunscreen or sunblock because this product will help you block the harmful sun rays from reaching your skin. With regular use of sunscreen, your face will remain tight which result to appearance of smaller pores and smoother skin.

While using this above products, it is still important to maintain healthy habits like exercise and eat healthy foods at the same time because what we usually take also reflects on our skin. Healthy living results to healthy and younger- looking skin.
